I was not, in general, much of a fan of the tsunami of synth which engulfed the English music scene in the first half of the 1980s (my high school and university days - so, I was listening to a lot of music around then). But there were a number of honourable exceptions, and Matt Johnson's project, The The, was certainly one of them (though partly because they didn't lean into the synths exclusively, still used a bit of guitar here and there, and plenty of live percussion). This is Infected, the blistering title track from the group's 1985 second album - a long-time 'Play Loud' favourite of mine!

Damn, we all know that feeling, don't we??
