Still 5 more days before our next FPL deadline....
In the first week of this inordinately long international break, time was dragging rather. But then I began to rather enjoy the unaccustomed leisure; indeed, it was feeling pleasantly like the summer break that we didn't really get this year, because of the extended World Cup.
The combination of a deluge of trading in the transfer window and an early international break means that it's pretty much impossible for any club to establish any settled form early in the season; and even if they had appeared to be doing so by Gameweek 5, the long halt in club training must surely have disrupted things again now. Effectively, we're resetting to the start of the season again, beginning again from nothing. I would not have liked to be playing the Wildcard over this international break because - as with choosing the initial squad at the start of the season - we'd all be essentially betting blind; we won't really have any idea which teams and individuals are in hot form for another two or three weeks yet; any changes you made to your squad between GW5 and GW6 are likely to be very soon regretted.
I think anyone who has been able to save their Wildcard should be able to reap much more benefit from it by playing it towards the end of this month, or at some point in November.
