Not just a football 'genius'??

I recently enjoyed this little profile of Ayyoub Bouaddi on the Daily Dose of Football Youtube channel. Manchester City's new midfield signing - only just turned 19 years old! - caught my eye with his performances for Morocco in the World Cup this summer, but I hadn't known much else about him. So, this introduction was most welcome.

It turns out that he appears to be not only a lovely lad, but extraordinarily bright as well: not just an outstanding 'football intelligence', but a formidable all-around intellect. (He shuns social media, and is more likely to spend his downtime reading books, listening to classical music, or playing chess. It's reassuring to learn that there are still some teenagers who follow such a path.)

Alas, I have serious doubts as to whether City was the right move for him. Daily Dose's creator Lucas Ribeiro suggests here that he might be becoming a first team mainstay in three or four years; but I don't see a ready path to achieving that when more experienced players like Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez are standing in his way. And that's too long for him to wait; he's good enough to be a regular starter straight away. I hope they'll let him go out on loan so he can continue to get regular gametime.
