A place of peace

One of my own photographs of the Khone Pa Soy Waterfalls in southern Lao, taken in the last week of October 2026

I had somehow missed out on the Khone Pa Soy Falls on previous visits to southern Lao. Off the eastern shore of Don Khone, the large island in the middle of the Mekong near the Cambodian border, they are much less grand than the Somphamit Falls on the other side of the island, but somehow - to me, anyway - far more charming, perhaps because so much more accessible. You can follow obscure paths off into the underbrush to find tiny hidden beaches that locals use to wade out into the torrent to set fish-traps; so, you can get right up to the water's edge, and even step into it at some points - whereas the larger falls you have to admire from a safe and respectful distance.

I have been back here a few times this week (it's about an hour-and-a-half's walk from where I'm staying). And meditating; trying to fix the scene in my mind, so that I'll always be able to recall it when I need a soothing image to cheer or calm me.
